Fairstone

Ipad displays image of Fairstone website. Text reads:

At Fairstone we are committed to ensuring that all of our website users have access to an inclusive experience and we are delighted to share that the cloud-based web accessibility toolbar, Recite Me is now active across our entire fairstone.co.uk website.

Why is accessibility important?

When people think accessibility, they typically think of people with disabilities, and whilst accessibility does provide assistance for these users, it also benefits a much wider audience.

In fact, a users ability to navigate a service could be affected by many factors such as location, health and equipment, for example;

  • Weak network connections
  • Physical impairments (e.g. broken hand)
  • Mobile users

Image shows: Wifi symbol with text reading "Weak network connections" is on the left. Image of a stick man with a working stick with the text: "Physical impairments" below is central. On the right is an image of a mobile phone with below text saying "Mobile device users".

What is Recite Me and how does it relate to accessibility?

Recite Me is a tool used to tackle the issue of inaccessible websites by giving users accessibility and language options to customise our website in a way that works for them.

The easy to use software includes text-to-speech functionality, fully customisable styling options, reading aids and a translation tool with over 100 languages.

Check out some of the key tools available:

Screen reader

Over 285 million people worldwide have a visual impairment, our screen reader allows visitors to listen to text on the page read aloud. This can be customised to suit the viewer.

Reading tools

774 million people in the world cannot read or write, and 10% of people have a learning disability, so reading content online can be a challenge for some people. To simplify use, the Recite Me accessibility toolbar provides five main tools; ruler, screen mask, magnifier, margins and a dictionary.

Styling tools

15% of the world’s population is neurodivergent. Recite Me assistive technology allows people to change the way a website looks. Users are able to customise the website’s colour scheme as well as the text, font style, size, colour, and spacing.

Translation tools

One in ten people don’t speak English as their first language. Recite Me web accessibility technology quickly and easily translates all your web content into over 100 languages, including 35 text to speech voices.

How can I access the Recite Me toolbar?

Visitors can activate the support tools via the ‘accessibility’ button that is shown in the upper right hand corner of each page, followed by the ‘tools’ button.

Alternatively, users can access a guide with instructions on each tool. This is found via the ‘accessibility’ button in the upper right hand corner of each page, followed by ‘guide’ button.
